Torre makes trek to Churchill Downs

CINCINNATI -- Dodgers manager Joe Torre made his anticipated visit on Wednesday morning to storied Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., less than a two-hour drive from Cincinnati.

Torre was checking on his Kentucky Derby entrant, Homeboykris -- a likely participant in the May 1 Run for the Roses.

"It was a lot of fun," said Torre. "He breezed for six furlongs. I don't think anyone can pass him in earnings, so it looks good."

Torre had a horse in the 2005 Kentucky Oaks, but he's never had a starter in the Derby, a rare achievement for any horse owner.

"I think he has a chance, but you never want to get too excited," Torre said. "With a horse, anything can happen."

Torre said he placed a future bet on Homeboykris in December.
