LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez spent part of his off-day on Monday helping local children prepare for their return to school.

Gonzalez and his wife, Betsy, partnered with the Dream Center to go back-to-school shopping with 100 Southern California students at a local Target. They provided $100 gift cards to the students that range from kindergarten to 12th grade.

The Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez Foundation was founded in 2008 to empower underprivileged youth in athletics, education and health when the first baseman was playing for the Padres. The Foundation now focuses on the youth of Los Angeles.
