Van Slyke said he didn't need to look at a replay of the 1-2 fastball from Seth Maness.
"I've seen enough balls off the plate," he said. "It's a ball. It's just frustrating, a big point in the game. I get back to 2-2 [if it's a ball], instead I'm rung up. I could tell how far off it is. The guy's been umpiring umpteen years, he should be able to call a ball."
Andre Ethier took over in center field with the Dodgers trailing, 3-1.
It was the first ejection of Van Slyke's career.
