LOS ANGELES -- Adrian Gonzalez briefly led the National League All-Star voting at first base but has since slipped behind Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt by more than 700,000 votes.

Goldschmidt certainly has the numbers in his favor, hitting .301 with 15 home runs compared to Gonzalez's 13 home runs and .253 average.

However, while Gonzalez's average has slipped in the last month, he continues to be an important run producer in the middle of the order for the Dodgers. Coming into Thursday night's game against the Cardinals, Gonzalez had a streak of seven straight games with at least one RBI. He leads the team with 48 RBIs. Gonzalez also leads the team in games played, providing a steady force in a lineup that has been shuffled quite often due to injury.

While he currently trails Goldschmidt, his importance to the Dodgers cannot be overlooked.

Fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com -- online or on a mobile device -- using the 2014 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot Sponsored by Experian until Thursday, July 3, at 8:59 p.m. PT. The 2014 All-Star Game will be played at Target Field on Tuesday, July 15 on FOX.
