CINCINNATI -- Right-hander Chad Billingsley had a setback in his bullpen session in Arizona on Tuesday, in which he threw approximately 30 pitches and felt discomfort in his elbow.

Billingsley underwent Tommy John surgery on his elbow in 2013 and after beginning rehab, was shut down due to flexor tendinitis that developed in his right arm two months ago. He restarted the rehab assignment with an outing for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, reaching his 30-pitch limit in 1 2/3 innings.

"They've stopped his rehab," Mattingly said. "I think he's going to see Dr. [Neal] ElAttrache, and we'll find out more from there. It's frustrating for him. For us it's tough, because you don't really have him until you have him. Hopefully it's another little minor thing like he had last time, but we'll see.
