PHILADELPHIA -- Manny Ramirez became the all-time leader in League Championship Series games played with his 47th appearance on Sunday night, surpassing David Justice.
Chase Utley has reached base in 23 consecutive postseason games, tied with Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig for second all-time. Orioles first baseman Boog Powell reached base in 25 consecutive postseason games. Cliff Lee's 10 strikeouts tied a Phillies playoff record. Steve Carlton did it in Game 2 of the 1980 World Series and Curt Schilling matched him in Game 1 of the 1993 NLCS. This is the second-most runs ever scored by the Phillies in a playoff game. The most came in a 15-14 loss to the Blue Jays in Game 4 of the 1993 World Series. Jayson Werth's home run in the first inning gave him 14 extra-base hits in the playoffs while playing for the Phillies. That sets a new club playoff record, passing Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt. Ryan Howard, with three more on Sunday in Game 3, has had an RBI in seven straight playoff games and has 18 in his last 10 postseason games. He had four in his first 14 playoff games but his 21 overall is the most ever by one player for the Phillies. His RBIs are the most ever by a Phillies player but Shane Victorino is now second with 18 after his three-run home run. Schmidt had 16. Hiroki Kuroda is the 13th Dodgers starter to fail to pitch at least two innings in a playoff game and the first since John Tudor in Game 3 of the 1988 World Series. Tudor left with an elbow injury.
