Led by left-hander Chris Reed, the Dodgers No. 6 prospect, Double-A Chattanooga came within one inning of a combined no-hitter Wednesday against Jacksonville. Despite losing the no-hit bid in the ninth, the Lookouts were able to hold on for a 5-4 victory.

Reed started the game and threw six no-hit innings before yielding to left-hander Mike Thomas, who retired six batters in a row. But the Lookouts lost the no-hitter when Brady Shoemaker singled against right-hander Pedro Baez in the ninth inning.

Reed, the Dodgers first-round pick in 2011, struck out nine batters, matching his career high. He walked three and allowed two unearned runs, a result of two of the Lookouts three errors on the day. The victory was the first of the season for Reed, who lowered his ERA to 1.02 through three starts. In 17 2/3 innings, he has struck out 22 batters and walked nine.

Wednesday's near no-hitter came just a day after Jacksonville threw a combined one-hitter against Chattanooga. Marlins No. 1 prospect Andrew Heaney threw six shutout innings in that game.
