Milton has been on the disabled list twice this year with back problems and suffered a major setback last week in New York. The microdiskectomy was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins and Milton is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday.
The 33-year-old left-hander had been one of the pleasant surprises for the Dodgers, filling in as a fifth starter after missing the past two seasons recovering from Tommy John elbow reconstruction. He was 2-1 with a 3.80 ERA in five starts.
The Dodgers were already looking to bolster their starting rotation before the Trade Deadline at the end of the month and knowing Milton is unavailable only reinforces that desire for management.
