PHOENIX -- Reliever Carlos Marmol, acquired by the Dodgers from the Cubs last week, threw a simulated game Monday at Camelback Ranch-Glendale with a large contingent of club brass watching.

Manager Don Mattingly, pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, vice presidents Vance Lovelace and Rick Ragazzo and Minor League coaches Rafael Chaves and Rick Knapp were among those watching the 25-pitch session as Marmol continues to work out mechanical flaws.

"We thought it was good," said Mattingly, who added that Marmol is scheduled to make a rehab appearances for Class A Rancho Cucamonga Wednesday.

Mattingly didn't rule out Marmol being activated before the All-Star break, but also said the pitcher and the club want to, "make sure he can actually work on things and not be thrown into it."

The Dodgers acquired Marmol and cash considerations, including $209,700 in international signing space, for reliever Matt Guerrier. He then agreed to a Minor League assignment to try and recapture his former All-Star form.

"He's made good strides," said Mattingly. "He seems enthusiastic. It's a good situation so far. He's working on what Rick and the Dodgers have taught for a long time."
