SAN DIEGO -- The Dodgers recalled utility man Elian Herrera from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday and optioned reliever Chris Withrow to the Isotopes.
The move was made to balance the roster after the Interleague series with the Yankees, when the Dodgers carried 13 pitchers.
Herrera made a one-game cameo with the Dodgers in May, and he filled in nicely last year when second baseman Mark Ellis was disabled.
Withrow, a former first-round pick, had a 5.40 ERA in three appearances since a June 11 promotion, including two perfect innings in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees.
