After the first quarter of the season, Hudson has looked like an All-Star second baseman after all.
He leads team regulars in average, runs, hits, doubles and -- most important -- hasn't missed a game. He's had a 13-game hitting streak and became the first Dodger to hit for the cycle in 39 years.
In the most recent fan balloting, Hudson ranks third among National League second basemen, with 314,103 votes, behind Philadelphia's Chase Utley and Milwaukee's Rickie Weeks.
Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times with the 2009 All-Star Game Sprint Online Ballot at MLB.com and all 30 club sites until July 2 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Starting rosters will be announced during the 2009 All-Star Game Selection Show presented by Chevrolet on TBS on July 5. Baseball fans around the world will then be able to select the final player on each team via the 2009 All-Star Game Sprint Final Vote at MLB.com.
And the voting doesn't end there. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in the official voting for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet at the Midsummer Classic via the 2009 All-Star Game Sprint MVP Vote at MLB.com.
The All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX and around the world by Major League Baseball International. ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio play-by-play, while MLB.com will offer extensive online coverage.
Manny Ramirez, despite serving a 50-game suspension for violating the MLB drug policy, is the Dodger closest to being elected to the All-Star Game by the fans. Ramirez ranks fourth in NL outfielders, with 442,763 votes, behind Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, the Cubs' Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Beltran of the Mets. Dodgers teammates Andre Ethier is 11th and Matt Kemp 14th.
At catcher, the Dodgers' Russell Martin (261,917 votes) ranks fourth in the NL behind Yadier Molina of St. Louis, Jason Kendall of Milwaukee and Ivan Rodriguez of the Astros.
