Dodgers, Cubs will play to benefit Green foundation

|
LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers and Cubs will play a Spring Training game on March 21 in Tucson to benefit the Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Foundation, a tribute to the slain daughter of Dodgers scout John Green.

The game will be played at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium at 1:05 p.m. PT, co-sponsored by the Pima County Sports and Tourism Authority and the Tucson Padres.

Christina-Taylor Green, 9, was the youngest of the six murdered in the Jan. 8, 2011, shooting that wounded 12 others, including Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

"We are very excited the Cubs agreed to play the Dodgers for this year's game," said John Green, national crosschecker for the Dodgers. "This game brings everything full circle for me, since I played in the Cubs organization and my dad, [Dallas], was their general manager."

The Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Foundation was established by the Green family to receive gifts in memory of their daughter. The mission of the foundation is to honor the life and memory of Christina-Taylor through charitable and educational projects that reflect and embody her interests, values and dreams.

This will mark the Dodgers' third annual benefit game in Tucson dating back to 2011, when the Dodgers and D-backs played a similar benefit game for the Tucson Together Fund. In addition, the Dodgers Dream Foundation, in partnership with the D-backs, dedicated a Dodgers Dreamfield in Oro Valley, Ariz., on a field that was renamed in memory of Christina-Taylor Green.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. and can be obtained online at www.tucsonpadres.com, by calling 520-434-1367 or at the Kino Stadium box office. Prices range from $8 to $25.
