Red Sox chairman Tom Werner, legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully and Dodgers manager Don Mattingly will all be honored at a ceremony in Los Angeles in January.
Werner will receive the Dave Winfield Humanitarian Award for his leadership in the game, while Mattingly is taking home the Tommy Lasorda Managerial Award. Scully, who plans to return for a record 64th season in 2013, will be bestowed with the Bud Selig Executive Leadership Award.
The Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation is presenting the awards at its 10th annual function, the "In the Spirit of the Game" Sports and Entertainment Spectacular. It's scheduled to be held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza on Jan. 12.
Werner, who is no stranger to Los Angeles as a Hollywood producer, will be presented his award by Winfield himself. He and Red Sox principal owner John Henry founded the Red Sox Foundation, which has raised millions for a variety of causes and announced on Wednesday its annual Run-Walk to Home Base event to benefit veterans will be held May 4.
The Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation was established in 2003 to help scouts in need, be it for job loss, illness or financial hardships. More than $1 million has been raised.
Tickets and sponsorship packages for the ceremony are available by phone at (818) 224-3906.
