Dodgers honoring veterans with pair of events

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers will bracket the weekend with a pair of Veterans Day events, with a visit to the Veterans Administration Hospital on Friday and batting practice for active and retired military on Monday at Dodger Stadium.

Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda (Army, 1946-47) will visit patients at the VA Hospital in Westwood from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. PT on Friday

On Monday, 100 active duty servicemen and veterans from Wounded Warriors, Operation Mend/Welcome Back Veterans and Veterans in Film and Television will be among those represented at the batting practice event.

Dodgers Special Advisor Don Newcombe (Army, 1952-53) and Congressman Xavier Becerra will welcome the group. Dodgers partner Magic Johnson will take photos with the military members.

Dodgers third baseman Luis Cruz will be joined by alumni Tim Leary, Paul Lo Duca and Roy Gleason (1967 Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient). TV hostess Samantha Harris will sing the National Anthem. Attendees will hit on the field, throw in the bullpen, participate in a chalk talk/Q&A and take a stadium tour.
