Jansen has surgery to correct irregular heartbeat
LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen underwent surgery on Tuesday to correct an irregular heartbeat and the club announced that he can begin physical activity in seven to 10 days without restriction.

Jansen had ablation surgery, performed by Dr. Koonwalee Nademanee at White Memorial Hospital. During the procedure, which lasted roughly three hours, the abnormal tissue in his heart was identified and then cauterized to stop the abnormal electrical signals sent from this area. His heart is currently in normal rhythm.

Jansen has had episodes the past two seasons that have required blood thinner medication, which has resulted in disabled list stints. This year's episode late in the season resulted in newly acquired Brandon League assuming Jansen's closer duties.

While management has said it wants to re-sign League, who will be a free agent, the Dodgers still believe in Jansen's ability to become a dominant late-inning reliever.

Jansen, 25, had a 2.35 ERA in 65 innings over 65 appearances with 25 saves (seven blown) and 99 strikeouts.
