LOS ANGELES -- Blake DeWitt grounded into a pair of rally-crippling double plays in the second and fifth innings of Game 5 of the National League Championship Series, crushing blows with Phillies starter Cole Hamels dealing on the mound.

DeWitt stepped to the plate with runners at first and second and one out in the second, but a 4-6-3 twin killing ended that threat with the Dodgers trailing, 1-0, at the time.

Then in the fifth, Casey Bake and Matt Kemp led off with hits as Los Angeles hoped to stage a rally trailing 5-0. But the inning went to the wayside after DeWitt grounded into another 4-6-3 double play before pinch-hitter Jeff Kent struck out to end the threat.

DeWitt came up with the big hit in Game 3, lacing a bases-clearing triple to put the Dodgers up by an insurmountable 5-0 margin. But the rookie second baseman, who was replaced by Kent in a double-switch after the fifth, is hitting just 1-for-13 (.077) in the series.
