GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Trayce Thompson homered off Josh Lindblom in the seventh inning as the White Sox edged the Dodgers on Thursday, 3-1.

Starters Aaron Harang of the Dodgers and Chris Sale of the White Sox hooked up in a pitchers' duel, each allowing one run over six innings.

Sale struck out five of the first six Dodgers he faced and seven overall, including Matt Kemp three times. The right-handed-hitting Kemp then struck out against another left-hander, Matt Thornton, in the ninth.

The White Sox scored off Harang in the top of the fifth on three singles and a wild pitch, Dayan Viciedo scoring on Alejandro De Aza's two-out single.

The Dodgers scored off Sale in the bottom of the fifth. Josh Fields led off with a single, advanced to third on a single by Juan Uribe and scored on A.J. Ellis' sacrifice fly.

Adam Dunn knocked in a run with a single in the eighth inning against the Dodgers' Scott Rice.

Up next for Dodgers: The Dodgers will play split-squad games on Friday. In the home game against the Brewers, live on MLB.TV's free game of the day at 1:05 p.m. PT, Chris Capuano starts against Francisco Rodriguez, with relievers Jamey Wright, Todd Coffey and Matt Guerrier scheduled. Guerrier will be making his first exhibition appearance since March 11 because of a sore lower back.

In the road game against the Cubs in Mesa, live via Gameday Audio at 1:05 p.m., Minor Leaguer Fernando Nieve starts for the Dodgers against Ryan Dempster, with Dodgers relievers Mike MacDougal, Scott Elbert, Javy Guerra and Kenley Jansen scheduled to pitch.
