Mattingly supports new playoff format
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Count Dodgers manager Don Mattingly among the big supporters of Major League Baseball's expanded playoff format.

"If it goes the way I've heard, I like that," he said. "It gives the advantage to the team that wins the division; that's the biggest key, because you may have to use your best pitcher to get in.

"It's fair. It gives the advantage to the team with the best record and the team that wins the division."

Mattingly also hopes for the elimination of the best-of-five playoff series.

"There's a better chance of the best team winning a best-of-seven," he said. "Best-of-five is such a momentum series."
