Dodgers hurlers scheduled to work out

|
MIAMI -- Two injured Dodgers pitchers have bullpen sessions scheduled at Coors Field on Friday that could help determine their return to game action.

Reliever Jonathan Broxton, out this week with a strained side muscle, played catch, long toss and threw off the bullpen mound before Thursday's day game against the Marlins and reported no stiffness. If he throws a planned bullpen session on Friday in Colorado, he could be available to pitch on Saturday. If he feels really good, he could cut short the bullpen session and be available for Friday night's game.

"He was good today," said manager Joe Torre. "Once he gets a bullpen under his belt, he'll be available for us. If not tomorrow, the next day."

Jason Schmidt is slated for what Torre called "a full-blown" bullpen session, after which a determination will be made whether the right-hander, 10 1/2 months after major shoulder surgery, is ready for "the next step," a Minor League rehabilitation assignment.

Torre said both pitchers are expected to throw despite a weather report that calls for pregame Denver temperatures in the mid-40s with overnight lows in the mid-30s.
