DALLAS -- The division-rival Rockies claimed outfielder Jamie Hoffmann off waivers from the Dodgers on Monday.
The 27-year-old Hoffmann has spent most of the last three seasons at Triple-A. He had brief callups of 14 games in 2009 and two games in '11. He has a .290 Minor League career batting average.
The Dodgers attempted to outright Hoffmann to Triple-A to keep him in the organization, but wanted to clear a spot off the 40-man roster to provide flexibility for an acquisition. The club is still looking for a utilityman who can play shortstop.
