DODGERS 3, RED SOX 1
at Los Angeles
Friday, March 28
Red Sox at the plate:
Jacoby Ellsbury scored from third on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning. Sean Casey's sixth-inning single was all the Sox could mount against four Dodgers relievers the rest of the way.
Dodgers at the plate:
Consecutive doubles by Andre Ethier and Jeff Kent with none out in the third inning produced L.A.'s first run. The Dodgers' winning rally came in the eighth on a walk to Ethier, who scored on a double by Mark Sweeney, who scored on James Loney's bloop single.
Red Sox on the mound:
Starter Bartolo Colon went four innings, giving up an earned run on three hits while striking out four and walking one. Julian Tavarez contributed three scoreless innings before Lincoln Holdzkom gave up two earned runs in the eighth and Hunter Jones came on to retire the two batters he faced.
Dodgers on the mound:
Starter Chad Billingsley struck out seven in a five-inning stint, allowing an earned run on two hits while walking three. Joe Beimel (two pitches in the sixth), Ramon Trancoso, winner Scott Proctor and Jonathan Broxton (one perfect inning for the save) combined for four scoreless innings.
Spring Training records:
Red Sox 7-12, Dodgers 10-17
The Dodgers host the Red Sox Saturday at 7:10 p.m. PT in the first Major League game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum since 1961.
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Dodgers' arrival in Los Angeles, the contes will feature a matchup between Red Sox right-hander Tim Wakefield and Dodgers right-hander Esteban Loaiza. Proceeds from the game will go to ThinkCure, the Dodgers' official charity.
