Braves at the plate: Javy Lopez's bid to win the backup catcher's job was enhanced when he began his Grapefruit League season with a two-run third-inning homer. Kelly Johnson's two-hit day included a two-run double in a seven-run fifth inning.

Dodgers at the plate: Andy LaRoche's two-out, two-run double in the first gave the Dodgers an early lead. Matt Kemp's infield single put him in position to score on the LaRoche double.

Braves on the mound: Jair Jurrjens, who is battling for one of the final spots int the starting rotation, thought he might have been too anxious while allowing the Dodgers one run and two hits in two innings. Buddy Carlyle, another candidate for the rotation, provided a strong first appearance with two perfect innings.

Dodgers on the mound: Hiroki Kuroda's debut with the Dodgers was a successful one, as he allowed just one hit over two scoreless innings. Greg Miller's control problems continued, as he allowed five earned runs and three hits without recording an out in the fifth inning.

Grapefruit League records: Dodgers 1-1; Braves 1-1.

Up next: Tom Glavine will make his spring debut on Saturday, when the Braves travel to Kissimmee, Fla., to face the Astros at 10:05 a.m. PT. Brad Penny will also be making his Grapefruit League season debut Saturday afternoon at 10:10 a.m. PT, when the Dodgers travel to Port St. Lucie, Fla., to face the Mets.
