VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Just days after Tony Clark signed with San Diego, the Dodgers on Tuesday re-signed free-agent pinch-hitter Mark Sweeney to a one-year contract.
The 38-year-old Sweeney, second on the all-time pinch-hit list, was acquired on Aug. 9, 2007, in a trade with the Giants for young infielder Travis Denker, the first deal between the two clubs in 22 years.
The left-handed Sweeney had 24 pinch-hits last year, the most in the Majors. He was 9-for-33 (.273) for the Dodgers last year, when he earned $900,000.
