Dodgers, Seanez agree on contract

|
LOS ANGELES -- It took nearly the entire offseason to get it done, but the Dodgers and reliever Rudy Seanez agreed to a one-year contract on Monday.

Seanez, 39, will receive $550,000 guaranteed with a possible $750,000 in bonuses to surpass the $1.2 million he earned in 2007. A bigger issue for Seanez was a Major League roster spot, which he received. Last year, he had to make the club on a Minor League contract.

He turned into quite a bargain, appearing in 73 games, going 6-3 with a 3.79 ERA. He was particularly effective in the first half of the season, going 5-1 with a 3.12 ERA. The 12-year Major League veteran is in his second tour with the Dodgers and has pitched professionally since 1986.

Monday honored: Rick Monday, entering his 15th season as a Dodgers broadcaster, was inducted in the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame on Monday.

The former Dodgers outfielder will receive the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's "Outstanding Youth Role Model Award" for his service to the community's youth through St. Vincent de Paul's outreach programs.
