'Frustrated' Ethier gets a day off

SAN DIEGO -- Dodgers All-Star right fielder Andre Ethier was out of the lineup Tuesday night.

"Just a day [off]," said manager Don Mattingly, who started Juan Rivera in right field against the Padres. "[Ethier] seemed frustrated last night."

Ethier went 0-for-4 Monday night, grounding into a double play in the first inning, grounding out with a runner on second to end the third, lining into a double play to end the fifth and bouncing into a forceout in the eighth.

Frustration, with Ethier, usually means he took it out on some inanimate object in the dugout with his bat, which Mattingly would neither confirm nor deny.

"He's not hurt. No one else is hurt," said Mattingly. "It's just a day."

Ethier was 3-for-14 with five strikeouts against Mat Latos, San Diego's starting pitcher Tuesday night. Rivera had never faced Latos.
