The Angels will send young righty Jered Weaver to the mound in the second game of the series. Weaver beat the Dodgers on May 19, allowing two runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings. Weaver, a Los Angeles area native, will be making his first career start at Dodger Stadium.
"It'll be kind of weird pitching on that mound," Weaver said. "It'll be weird for my dad, too. I remember watching games from the stands when I was a kid."
The Dodgers are 2-5 in Interleague Play, and the Angels are 6-3.
LAD: RHP Jason Schmidt (1-3, 6.43 ERA)
Coming off one of his best pitching performances of the season in San Diego, Schmidt struggled in his second start since being activated from the DL on Sunday against Toronto. He allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out three over just four innings. Schmidt was tagged for four extra-base hits, including a home run by Troy Glaus. The good news is Schmidt reported no pain in his shoulder.
LAA: RHP Jered Weaver (5-3, 4.14 ERA)
Weaver's lower back strain forced him out of his start in St. Louis on Sunday after just three innings. It was a recurrence of a problem that has hindered him off and on for several weeks. Weaver wasn't sharp from the beginning against the Cards, yielding three earned runs on five hits and two walks. He beat the Dodgers in Anaheim on May 19, yielding two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings, and he looks forward to facing his favorite boyhood team at Dodger Stadium for the first time.
Player to watch
James Loney was 2-for-2 with a homer as a pinch-hitter in the last two games. Since being called up on Sunday, Loney is 4-for-10 with a homer, a double and four RBIs.
