Abreu goes to Dodgers camp with title in tow

Tony Abreu can take something besides a good hitting stroke to Spring Training with the Los Angeles Dodgers. After a stellar regular season in the Dominican Winter League, the second baseman won a championship with the Aguilas Cibaenas.

Abreu batted .365 during the season, and .278 with three RBIs and eight walks in 17 playoff games. He helped the Aguilas Cibaenas defeat the Tigres del Licey, 5-2, in the best-of-nine championship series.

Here's a look at how other Dodgers performed in various fall and winter leagues:

Dominican Winter League

OF Matt Kemp -- The 22-year-old outfielder batted just .232 in the postseason, but knocked in 12 runs for the Tigres del Licey. He spent the regular season with the Estrellas de Oriente and batted .171 with five RBIs in nine games.

SS Wilson Valdez -- Valdez enjoyed a stellar postseason for the Gigantes del Cibao, who were eliminated on Jan. 17. His .333 batting average ranked third in the league, and he also finished among the DWL leaders with five doubles, five stolen bases and a .390 on-base percentage in 18 games. During the season, he hit .263 with six RBIs and eight runs scored in 15 contests.

RHP Dario Veras -- Veras posted a 3.68 ERA in seven postseason games with the Gigantes, and he shared the league lead with six saves. He picked up four saves and recorded a 2.45 ERA in eight regular-season appearances.

1B James Loney -- Loney batted .235 with two homers and nine RBIs in 24 regular-season games with the Tigres del Licey. He did not participate in the playoffs.

C Sandy Martinez -- The veteran catcher batted .180 with one homer and six RBIs in 18 regular-season games with the Tigres del Licey. He was 0-for-2 in the playoffs.

SS Wilson Betemit -- Betemit went 2-for-8 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored in two regular-season games with the Leones del Escogido.

LHP Marlon Arias -- Arias gave up three runs -- two earned -- over 1 2/3 frames in three regular-season games with the Leones.

3B Fernando Tatis -- The 32-year-old third baseman hit .192 with four RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base in 15 regular-season games with the Estrellas de Oriente.

Venezuelan Winter League

LHP Carlos Alvarez -- The 21-year-old reliever retired just two batters while surrendering three runs over his final five appearances for the Pastora de los Llanos. Alvarez was 0-2 with a 3.77 ERA in 26 games and did not pitch in the postseason.

LHP Jonathan Figueroa -- Figueroa pitched 5 1/3 scoreless frames over five postseason appearances for the Aguilas del Zulia. He allowed five hits and three walks while striking out four batters. During the regular season, the 23-year-old southpaw went 2-2 with a 1.36 ERA in 27 games.

1B/3B Eduardo Perez -- Perez collected hits in four of his last five games and batted .246 with 11 RBIs in 20 regular-season contests with the Aguilas del Zulia. The 22-year-old infielder stepped it up in the playoffs, going 8-for-22 with one homer, five RBIs and three runs scored in six games.

RHP Adam Thomas -- Thomas had his poorest outing on Dec. 23, yielding five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits in five innings. It was the first time in 11 games that he surrendered more than three runs. The 27-year-old righty went 1-5 with a 4.31 ERA and did not pitch in the postseason for the Cardenales de Lara.

2B/3B Sergio Garcia -- Garcia, who debuted with the Aguilas Cibaenas on Dec. 15, went 6-for-10 in his final three regular-season games to raise his batting average to .316. He picked up two RBIs in six contests, but did not play in the postseason.

RHP Harold Eckert -- Eckert did not pitch after Dec. 9, going 1-3 with a 5.89 ERA in 12 games with the Aguilas del Zulia.

LHP Alberto Bastardo -- Bastardo pitched in just one regular-season game for the Caribes de Oriente and walked the only batter he faced.

RHP Mark Alexander -- The 26-year-old reliever was 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA over nine games in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

Mexican Pacific League

RHP Elmer Dessens -- The Major League veteran won a league title with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, despite going 0-1 with a 5.97 ERA in five postseason starts. He was second in the league with 28 2/3 innings. Dessens gave up one run on 14 hits over 17 innings in four regular-season starts.

RHP Jesus Rodriguez -- The 21-year-old righty picked up two wins in his last three outings to finish with a 7-1 mark. In his most recent start on Dec. 30, Rodriguez gave up one hit over five scoreless frames to lower his ERA to 4.26. He was 0-2 in the playoffs, racking up a 19.29 ERA in seven innings.

SS Oscar Robles -- The infielder went 2-for-19 in his final five regular-season games for the Mayos de Navojoa and batted .265 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 66 contests. Robles fared better in the playoffs, batting .316 (6-for-19) with four walks in five games.

LHP Thomas Melgarejo -- Melgarejo gave up two runs over 1 2/3 frames in the playoffs for the Tomateros de Culiacan after posting a 4.70 ERA in 22 regular-season appearances.

C Gabriel Gutierrez -- The 23-year-old catcher went 0-for-1 in his only regular-season appearance for the Algodoneros de Guasave, who did not make the playoffs.

RHP Spike Lundberg -- Lundberg was 5-3 with one complete game and a 4.34 ERA in eight regular-season starts for the Algodoneros de Guasave.

Hawaii Winter Baseball

OF Xavier Paul -- Paul recorded his third multi-hit game of the season when he went 2-for-5 against West Oahu on Nov. 20. The 21-year-old outfielder batted .213 with two homers, 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored in 32 games for the North Shore Honu.

RHP Zachary Hammes -- Hammes did not give up an earned run while yielding seven hits over 8 2/3 innings in his final nine games with North Shore. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound right-hander finished 0-1 with five saves and a 1.23 ERA in 15 appearances.

LHP Wesley Wright -- Wright closed his HWB campaign with a stellar week. In his last three games, he surrendered five hits over seven scoreless frames to knock his ERA down to 1.55. He finished with a 2-2 mark in 13 games for the Honu.

3B Blake DeWitt -- DeWitt's batting average hovered around the Mendoza Line for much of the season and he knocked in only four runs in 26 games. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder had a solid finish, however, going 6-for-15 (.400) over four games to raise his average to .216. His best performance came in his penultimate game on Nov. 20, when he went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Arizona Fall League

RHP Jonathan Meloan -- Meloan got plenty of work for the Mesa Solar Sox after logging 52 innings for three Minor League teams during the 2006 season. The right-hander was 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA and one save in 14 games. His best stretch came from Oct. 14-30, when he put together an 8 2/3-inning scoreless streak.

OF Anthony Raglani -- The 6-foot-2, 215-pound outfielder collected hits in his last three games, including a 3-for-5 effort against the Phoenix Desert Dogs. The stretch lifted Raglani's batting average 34 points to .237. He finished with two homers, 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored in 20 games.

RHP Brian Akin -- Akin ended his AFL season by giving up runs in three straight appearances and taking the loss against Phoenix on Nov. 10. The right-hander ended up 1-3 with a 3.65 ERA in 21 games. Eight of the 13 runs he allowed were unearned.

SS Chin-Lung Hu -- The 22-year-old infielder did not play after Nov. 4. He batted .193 with two RBIs in 16 games with Mesa.
