LOS ANGELES -- Top prospects Rubby De La Rosa, Dee Gordon and Jerry Sands are among 15 non-roster players the Dodgers have invited to Major League Spring Training camp.
Traditionally, non-roster invitees are former Major Leaguers and journeyman Minor Leaguers given outside chances of making the Dodgers roster. Fitting that category are pitchers Dana Eveland, Jon Huber, Oscar Villareal, Tim Redding and Roman Colon, infielders Juan Castro and Eugenio Velez, outfielder Trent Oeltjen, and catcher JD Closser.
Invitations to De La Rosa (a right-handed pitcher), Gordon (shortstop) and Sands (outfielder) will allow new manager Don Mattingly and the refurbished coaching staff an opportunity to see if the trio is advanced enough to help the Major League club at some point in the 2011 season.
Wilkin De La Rosa (right-handed pitcher), Damaso Espino (catcher) and Justin Sellers (infielder) complete the list. They are Minor Leaguers who have no Major League experience.
