Lindsey's hand likely won't need surgery
PHOENIX -- Doctors believe rookie first baseman John Lindsey's broken hand will heal without needing surgery to insert a pin, Dodgers trainer Stan Conte said Sunday.
X-rays were sent to three hand specialists, Conte said, and the consensus was to hold off on surgery and take another X-ray when the club returns to Los Angeles for next weekend's final series of the season against Arizona.
Lindsey, who received his first callup to the Major Leagues earlier this month after a 16-year Minor League career, suffered the broken hand Saturday night when struck by a 92 mph fastball from Daniel Hudson in the Dodgers' 5-2 loss to the D-backs.
Lindsey has the hand in a soft splint. He hopes to be healed in time to play the second half of the Mexican winter league.
