Martin to have hip rescanned; Furcal 'upbeat'
DENVER -- Disabled Dodgers catcher Russell Martin is expected to have his broken right hip rescanned next week to determine if the fracture is healing properly.
If it is, his chances improve of avoiding surgery to repair the season-ending damage he suffered Aug. 3, when he tried to score standing up and jammed his leg into his hip, resulting in a slight fracture and torn labrum. Martin has been on crutches ever since.
Trainer Stan Conte also reported that disabled shortstop Rafael Furcal had "another good day" working out Saturday in Arizona, doing all baseball activities. He will be re-examined Monday and likely will go out on a rehab assignment.
"He's really upbeat and things seem to be back to normal," said Conte.
