Top NL outfield spot within Ethier's grasp

Top NL outfield spot within Ethier's grasp

|
LOS ANGELES -- A last-minute push could take Andre Ethier from the third and final starting position in the National League outfield into the top spot at the 2010 All-Star Game, which will be played on July 13 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

Fewer than 100,000 votes in the latest tallies separated Ethier from the Braves' Jason Heyward, who sits in second place, and leader Ryan Braun of the Brewers. Ethier's lead over fourth-place outfielder Jayson Werth of the Phillies is much greater, more than 300,000, but not enough to make the Dodgers' right fielder a lock for his first All-Star appearance.

Ethier is in an 0-for-16 slide over the past four games, but is still third in the NL with a .318 average. The Dodgers have the talent in their outfield to field three starting All-Stars, but Matt Kemp remained in seventh place in the voting, while Manny Ramirez fell one spot to 10th.

Russell Martin fell out of the top five amongst NL catchers.

In-stadium voting at Dodger Stadium has ended, but fans can still cast their votes for starters up to 25 times at MLB.com and all 30 club sites using the 2010 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot sponsored by Sprint until July 1 at 8:59 p.m. PT.

Sprint subscribers can now vote on the go with select Sprint devices. They can learn more about how to vote on their smart phones at MLB.com/Sprint.

Starting rosters will be announced on July 4 during the 2010 All-Star Game Selection Show on TBS. Baseball fans around the world will then be able to select the final player on each team via the 2010 All-Star Game Final Vote sponsored by Sprint.

And the voting doesn't end there. Fans will have the chance to participate in the official voting for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award, presented by Chevrolet at the Midsummer Classic via the 2010 All-Star Game MVP Vote sponsored by Sprint.

The All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX and around the world by Major League Baseball International. ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio play-by-play, while MLB.com will offer extensive online coverage.
