CINCINNATI -- After a day off from the starting lineup Sunday, Matt Kemp moved down to the No. 6 spot in the Dodgers' order in Tuesday's series opener against the Reds.
The center fielder hadn't gotten a hit in his last 16 at-bats and had seen his average drop from .283 to .265 over the span of five games.
"Just to try to get him out of the spotlight a little bit," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "He's still protected by Casey [Blake] behind him, so we have some protection for him. He's been fighting himself and just get him out of there for a couple days and see what happens."
It was the first time this season Kemp has batted sixth. He has hit second 28 times, third 12 times and fourth 19 times.
